The Settlers of Catan Understand the Importance of Social Distancing, Why Don’t We?
The Isle of Catan-
I’ll trade you two wheat and a wood for a brick and an end to a global pandemic?
Take a look at the picture to the right. Please, notice how proper social distancing as been implemented into the organization of roads, settlements, and cities in on the isle of Catan. How responsible! See how reasonable the people of Catan are behaving throughout all this. Why can’t we, and more specifically, American’s respond in a time of crisis in the level-headed manner in which the imaginary board game dwelling residents of Catan are responding?
Sure, this is a dumb article but as I was going through the trouble to download the Catan app on my phone, play all four sides of the game pictured above, and take a screenshot, I noticed something. The only way for me to build up each section of the board was to trade, trade a lot. This idea can be mapped on to large scale economics as the board game does so well, but it can also show how during your time in isolation, your time social distancing, you should not ignore your neighbors, because they might need you. You may also need your neighbor.
So, how about, in lieu of your original offer, I give you a brick and 3 sheep as I notice you have a sheep port and I am on an 8 sheep. Let’s work together. Let’s flatten the curve.
